As with a low sucking sound it slowly disappeared again, Starbuck still gazing at the agitated waters where it had sunk, with a wild voice exclaimed—“Almost rather I had seen Moby Dick and fought him, than to have seen thee, thou white ghost!”
“What was it, Sir?” said Flask.
“The great live squid, which, they say, few whale-ships ever beheld and returned to their ports to tell of it.”

Moby-Dick, 1851

NEWS

3-17-09  No one reads this column
Guys, FURL sucks. It has sucked for years, and I'm sorry I've been using it. I have switched over to delicious; I would have done this much sooner, but they made it really difficult the last time I tried.

4-21-08  Archives
Uhmm, apparently archives haven't really been working since late 2006. THANX for the heads up guys! They are temporarily fixed, and will stay temporarily fixed until I migrate to new software/layout. I have said some hilarious things in the last 7 years, that future generations will feel lucky I preserved. Go check them out.

1-18-08  new iPhone icon
Woah, it's been 3 years since the last news update! Fuzzysquid now has a webclips icon for your iPhone! It'll automagically show up when you add FS to your home screen. Atom and RSS feeds have been available for a few years now, but I never made special mention of it.

1-14-05  LJ images
Since it seems to be popular, and it's been linked in a lot of different places besides here, I've decided to post the LJ Images page. At least in the news, at least for now. It's also getting some Google ads because you LiveJournal people are sucking up all my bandwidth (35% for that one page!)

4-02-04  FURL
Check out what I've been browsing: FURL.net bookmark archive. Not much commentary, relevance, or sequitur—but it's what's keeping this blog from turning into a meme dumpster.

Porn movie titles combine two of my favorite things—bad puns and dirty thoughts. And thus, my current favorites: A Midsummer Night's Ream, and Breakfast is Tiffany.

So as some of you may know, my birthday is on Christmas Eve. This is like a kick to the nuts for two reasons:

1. I get shafted by Jesus Christ—one lame gift for both my birthday and Christmas. And it's not even his real birthday until March!

2. For as long as I can remember, my mom has gotten me a $12 cake from Chinatown. It is invariably fruit-filled, and on several ocassions, decorated with plastic reindeer, trees, Santa, and sometimes "Happy Holidays."

Holy Crap! It's snowing outside! I must be telekinetic! As soon as I changed the bg here, bam! White Christmas! Ok, so it's a very wet snow, but this is like the first time it's snowed on Christmas in my memory. Woo!

The photo album from my crazy trip is now up!! Clickity-click here! And with that, I'm officially changing the time zone of this blog to PST! Rather ironic, seeing as how I'm posting this from New York... It's got 11 pages of photos, so be warned modem users...

It's time again for the random link roundup. something for everyone! I [heart] science chicks. Santa's a switcher. And an iPod user... (did you miss will's original switch ad?) voyeurism, automated. world's oldest salad dressing. And finally, something for the designers. Speaking of which, I was looking at a flat in Potrero this weekend and the owner, after complaining about her architect and contractors, looked at me and said "You're not an architect, are you? You look like one."

See! See! Piracy = plundering and murder committed at sea. It is NOT what happens when I load music into my iPod. The stuff college kids are doing is typically fair use, and at worst copyright infringement. The semantics that are being used are such utter lies. I was at a party when a girl described her job at a software company that was developing DRM?"Digital Rights Management." Everyone walked away thinking that company was trying to protect freedoms online! Bah! DRM = digital restrictions management, and it's my dream that the members of the RIAA and their ilk one day actually experience Jennie Lin-style piracy.

As a child, I used to have this irrational fear of pirates. I was deathly afraid of them: nothing more scary than a buccaneer plundering your house, I'd say. My mom said that I was silly.

But looky here! Piracy on the high seas is still well alive and kicking. See! See! My fears weren't that untenable after all.

Now I'm going to go hide under my covers and study for my exams.

GOD. I'm so fucking disgusted with this country right now. You all realize that we're living through our generation's McCarthyism, don't you? Every day I get more and more sick with what America has become.

Fuck John Ashcroft
Fuck the Department of Homeland Security
Fuck Tom Ridge
AND FUCK BUSH

I would take solace in the hope that history will remember these morons for the treasonous slime they are--but they'll also remember us, the American people, as the willfully stupid cretins that allowed this to happen. I hope someone puts us out of our misery soon.

Crap. I'm coming back for Christmas... I don't know if I'll be able to readjust to weather that's not 65 degrees all day. Speaking of New York, living in California has made me forget all about terrorism and being suspicious/afraid all the time. I remember one morning this past fall when everyone at work was talking about an explosion mid-town, and that's all the media were reporting on for hours. (Turned out to be a bad water boiler.) I hope to god nothing ever happens in San Francisco. I'd seriously have to move to Canada then. I mean, christ, doesn't anyone *remember* 1984? There's always going to be a war. Because people are always going to want something to fear.

It snowed here in New York! I'd like to see Mother Nature dump six inches of snow in your part of town, Dan! Just kidding. I bet that the snow wouldn't make you feel any better either. Feel better soon!

Ladder Theory seems to have gotten a lot of notice lately, in my circle anyway. It seems to have gone through peer review pretty sucessfully, but I'm not sure that I would subscribe to it. Actually, I'm wary of posting it, as it seems like something I would've come up with when I was 16 and girlfriendless--and that's not the sort of thing I want to spread around really. But still, it's hard to dismiss outright, someone who cites Billy Crystal and Nietzsche in the same breath. Anyway the whole thought process is very private school frustrated hetero boy, but there it is.
