As with a low sucking sound it slowly disappeared again, Starbuck still gazing at the agitated waters where it had sunk, with a wild voice exclaimed—“Almost rather I had seen Moby Dick and fought him, than to have seen thee, thou white ghost!”
“What was it, Sir?” said Flask.
“The great live squid, which, they say, few whale-ships ever beheld and returned to their ports to tell of it.”

Moby-Dick, 1851

NEWS

3-17-09  No one reads this column
Guys, FURL sucks. It has sucked for years, and I'm sorry I've been using it. I have switched over to delicious; I would have done this much sooner, but they made it really difficult the last time I tried.

4-21-08  Archives
Uhmm, apparently archives haven't really been working since late 2006. THANX for the heads up guys! They are temporarily fixed, and will stay temporarily fixed until I migrate to new software/layout. I have said some hilarious things in the last 7 years, that future generations will feel lucky I preserved. Go check them out.

1-18-08  new iPhone icon
Woah, it's been 3 years since the last news update! Fuzzysquid now has a webclips icon for your iPhone! It'll automagically show up when you add FS to your home screen. Atom and RSS feeds have been available for a few years now, but I never made special mention of it.

1-14-05  LJ images
Since it seems to be popular, and it's been linked in a lot of different places besides here, I've decided to post the LJ Images page. At least in the news, at least for now. It's also getting some Google ads because you LiveJournal people are sucking up all my bandwidth (35% for that one page!)

4-02-04  FURL
Check out what I've been browsing: FURL.net bookmark archive. Not much commentary, relevance, or sequitur—but it's what's keeping this blog from turning into a meme dumpster.

GOOD NEWS: Seems Luke is alive. Excellent.

1. Luke was vacationing in Thailand.

2. Unless you've been under a rock, you know South Asia was hit with a huge quake and subsequent tsunami that has killed 23,000 33,000 50,000 63,000 people. :(

3. The Cat just climbed on my shoulders as I was hunched over typing and now has fallen asleep. What does this mean? Is she asserting dominance? Do I need to teach her a lesson?
( Number 3 is wholly unrelated. )

WTF. New York City is too cold. Why would you CHOOSE to build a city where for 3 months out of the year people are miserably cold (and then for another three they're insufferably hot)? And I'm convinced that everyone else here is just as cold as I am, only they're too stubborn to admit it (and by "admit" I mean: wearing every piece of clothing you own, and shivering uncontrollably). Yeah, you may say California has turned me into a pussy, but between the two of us, I'm the one who can feel my extremities after walking out of my house for 5 minutes. Next year I'm insisting we have Christmas in St. Lucia.

Well, I flew first class tonight, and I can now pretty much confirm that yes, rich people really are happier than the rest of us. When I de-planed (and I was the third person off), I didn't want to kill someone. Amazing. I may have even sniffed a little when I arrived at the baggage claim and there was not a manservant in white gloves waiting to hand me my things.

Actually, it wasn't just first class, it was United's new "p.s." service, which is only available between SF, LA, and NYC. I will sum it all up with one word: tablecloths.

Why haven't we invented some sort of robot that will do all my packing for me, while I compose a litany of pointless complains to my blog that would make Andy Rooney proud?

I'll be turning 25 in a few days, which is entirely depressing. I'm growing up, and part of growing up means you have to start taking care of yourself. As I've previously noted, this means going to the dentist/doctor. So whereas before, when I got sick, I would rely on my youthful resilience and lie crying & prostrate on my bed until I got better, now, I go to the doctor and get scripts.

A few observations: 1. The medical care industry in the US is fucked. Each time I go to the doctor I spend less than 2 minutes with him, which apparently, is enough time to figure out what's wrong and send me on my way with instructions to buy things. 2. Penicillin is all but useless in the western world, thanks to jerk doctors like mine. 3. Medication is pretty goddamned expensive.

This may all be old hat to you, but as I mentioned, I am new to all this, and starting to think that holding out for 25 years wasn't such a mistake after all.

Is there a name for the fear of finding nude photos of your ex-girlfriend on the internet? Because there ought to be. I bet the Germans have one. Subdivided into: fear of finding photos you took, and finding ones you did not take.

Hm. Something quite good happened to me yesterday, but I can't really talk about it for another two weeks. :>
