Inky The Squid 11:59 AM
boo!
dannyboy 11:45 AM
ok. i'm now in Denver, CO, by way of San Francisco, waiting for a flight back to Wyoming. I can't tell you how depressing it is to be the only jerk in the airport wearing shorts and flip-flops.
on the brighter side, I'm stealing hi-speed internet from the Qwest Business Center, so not all is bad. chumps!

Jack@$$ is the #1 movie in America. Awesome!! The guy who stuck a hot wheels car up his arse should get an Oscar.

Ok, so here's the story. Quickly, before I leave for paradise: I got into a car accident in Yellowstone. It started snowing heavily as we were driving through the park, and on a downhill curve I lost control (actually, Lori complimented me on my emergency maneuvering, as I recovered from the first two times we started skidding--you can thank Rallisport Challenge for that). The car spun around 180 degrees, and my left rear wheel jumped the curve, and plowed through some endangered trees. If you disregard the fact that we could've easily died a horrible death (on the other side of the road was an icy lake that a father and son had recently drowned in), it was kind of fun. What wasn't fun was the subsequent tows (yes, plural--outside tow companies can't work inside the park) that cost ~$500, and the resulting damage to my poor little car, the actual figure we will not be discussing. sigh. ok so, that's not even the worst part, since insurance will cover it all minus a grand. The worst part is being stuck in Jackson Hole, WY until the Accord gets fixed. Which is now looking like Thursday at the earliest. Crapson Blows, as I like to call it, is actually a fun resort town during the season. Yup. It's now past the summer season, and two weeks before the start of the ski season. The best suggestion all half dozen locals we questioned could come up with was "drink." So we did. And the next day we decided to get the hell out of dodge. I have to wait for my car, so I decided to do it in Hawaii!

i'll tell you about the SPAM museum & factory fiasco later...
dannyboy 8:16 AM
greetings from Sioux Falls, South Dakota! This will likely be our last stop in civilization until Seattle, so... send me some email! we intended to stay in Mitchell SD, but the entire town was booked, due to yesterday being the start of the hunting season. apparently, this area of SD has the best pheasant hunting anywhere, and Mitchell receives hunters from all around the world this time of year. starting last night. which coincidentally, is when we decided to drive into town, to see the Corn Palace (to which Lori likes to chant: "IT'S THE ONLY BYZANTINE STRUCTURE IN THE WORLD DECORATED WITH CORN AND GRAIN MURALS!!!").

and i almost forgot to mention visiting the Zippo factory & museum in Branford, PA. sigh, if only the powerbook had a similar team of crack repairmen at the ready, for any and all warranty service.
dannyboy 11:27 PM
re-entering the US at detroit with my duty free vodka and ice wine, we drove on through michigan, spent the night in kalamazoo, and now i'm posting this from chicago. which is a nice enough place, but it's supposed to snow tomorrow. this is still october, right? and one of their sidewalks took a big chunk out of the corner of my powerbook... everything still seems to work, but i am really annoyed at just how delicate this thing is.
you may feel free to berate me for chickening out and not getting a caseload of cubans while i was in canada. need to get sam to smuggle them over the border for me.
dannyboy 11:04 PM
on our way west from north carolina, we decided to take a slight detour... to canada. (lori's never been to niagra) funny how things can be on your way when you've got nowhere to be. anyhow, i LIKE canada. i LIKE salt and vinegar on my fries. AND, it's like people there don't know to gouge tourists! a motel room near the falls was $32 US! (as compared with $75 US for Breezewood, PA) i would seriously think about moving there if it weren't for the insane taxes. and their weird candy.

Dan's been gone for five days now. Jeez. Dan, I can't believe you're in a car somewhere driving through some quadrangle midwestern state - I hate you. And when I say "I hate you", I mean "I hope you're having a wonderful time seeing amazing things and that you and your friends are safe and sound." Now, *cue Magnetic Fields' Come Back from San Francisco"

arrrgh! why do i always wait until the LAST minute to pack!? i leave tomorrow afternoon! i think i emailed everyone, but if you're in need of my new cell number, or my itinerary, let me know.
oh, i just realized i may not have ever stated my plans explicitly: i'm moving to san francisco and my cross country driving tour starts tomorrow! i'll be travelling with Lori, and taking the northern route (because I'm going to miss winter once I'm in SF). there's quite a lot to see, and of course not nearly enough time. we're set to arrive at our final destination Oct. 25th, give or take a day. so updates will probably be slim the next two weeks. rah!

researchers in britain have found the world's funniest joke. riiight. which just goes to prove my theory: people are a problem. i did however, find this fascinating: "Bizarrely, computer analysis of the data also showed that jokes containing 103 words were thought to be especially funny. The winning "hunters" joke was 102 words long... Jokes mentioning ducks were considered particularly funny." i liked britain's funniest joke, and the top jokes for the UK and Belgium made me laugh out loud. and p.s., you can thank the jerks at CNN for breaking up one article into a hundred, individually useless servings.

i think the cat knows i'm leaving. she's been extra nice to me lately.
