As with a low sucking sound it slowly disappeared again, Starbuck still gazing at the agitated waters where it had sunk, with a wild voice exclaimed—“Almost rather I had seen Moby Dick and fought him, than to have seen thee, thou white ghost!”
“What was it, Sir?” said Flask.
“The great live squid, which, they say, few whale-ships ever beheld and returned to their ports to tell of it.”

Moby-Dick, 1851

Guys, FURL sucks. It has sucked for years, and I'm sorry I've been using it. I have switched over to delicious; I would have done this much sooner, but they made it really difficult the last time I tried.

4-21-08  Archives
Uhmm, apparently archives haven't really been working since late 2006. THANX for the heads up guys! They are temporarily fixed, and will stay temporarily fixed until I migrate to new software/layout. I have said some hilarious things in the last 7 years, that future generations will feel lucky I preserved. Go check them out.

1-18-08  new iPhone icon
Woah, it's been 3 years since the last news update! Fuzzysquid now has a webclips icon for your iPhone! It'll automagically show up when you add FS to your home screen. Atom and RSS feeds have been available for a few years now, but I never made special mention of it.

1-14-05  LJ images
Since it seems to be popular, and it's been linked in a lot of different places besides here, I've decided to post the LJ Images page. At least in the news, at least for now. It's also getting some Google ads because you LiveJournal people are sucking up all my bandwidth (35% for that one page!)

4-02-04  FURL
Check out what I've been browsing: FURL.net bookmark archive. Not much commentary, relevance, or sequitur—but it's what's keeping this blog from turning into a meme dumpster.

  1. TONMO - The Octopus News Magazine Online. Invaluable.
  2. Angrywhale - Meet Leonard. He's an angry sort of whale.
  3. The Squid Blog - From the Laughing Squid people.

  4. Moxyberry - Where the cousin is at. Her bookmarks here.
  5. Cranky User - Brian's bookmarks. Updated, unlike his site.
  6. Rosenstock - Her other ride is your mom.

i found out who's been accessing the site from navy.mil... apparently, they are not trying to steal my squid research. note to self: cancel plans of burning down computer and escaping the country.

we had the company christmas party last night, where i saw Stockard Channing sitting at the next table. so that's celebrity sighting #2 for me (#1 being Sarah Vowell of NPR and book authorship fame).

i've been scrutinizing the server logs, and coming up with lots of weird info. i love statistics so damn much, especially now that the stats program makes pretty graphs. but its getting to be a bit like rear window, and i'm getting paranoid over ever anomaly. like why there's been consistent traffic from navy.mil... that freaks me out.

can you tell the difference between McCarthy and Ashcroft?

another good article from A List Apart that i found thought provoking. not just because i hate stylist wannabe scene whores (woo!) but because it informs me about my design process.

"The important part of this idea is that the task of the designer is to present the client with a solution within an ambit circumscribed by factors beyond his or her control, factors that limit the ability to unrestrainedly impose personal taste. When a designer?a Paul Rand, a Saul Bass, a Neville Brody?can consistently succeed at this and still develop a recognizable personal style, well, that (by my lights, anyway) is where all the artistry resides."

just bought an easy-bake oven with marie. i am not ashamed to say that i want one for myself. while in line at the cashier, one of the clerks asked me if i wanted the last xbox in the store. i said no. perhaps this will end up being the biggest mistake i make all year...

"A Spanish design shop recently had a blaze on its premises. They only had one Mac (the rest were PCs). All the PCs perished but the Mac survived and was bootable. It's not pretty but I think it looks kind of terminator-ish." awesome. the page is in spanish, but take a look at the photos.

ok. anyone (know someone) looking for a roommate or an apartment? something in the village would be ideal. contact me! it has come to my attention that the above statement has been misconstrued as dan = making big bux. this is NOT true. liveable apartments close to downtown can be had for sub $1000.

"What did people of the Bible look like? Scholars have debated this question for centuries, and opinions vary widely." but now the definitive answer has come to us, in action figure form! and if that's not enough Good News™, you can now choose from light skinned or dark skinned versions! hallelujah!

today is World AIDS day, and as part of the Link and Think project (formerly "A Day With(out) Weblogs") today's blog will be about AIDS. ok, basically i had several links prepared, but they all suck. so here's my personal take on all this. i know this is the last thing on your mind, and AIDS is just not a part of your world. we live, for the most part, in affluence, and blissful ignorance of the craziness going on all over the globe. it'll probably take one of your close friends (or previous sexual partners) telling you they're taking an AIDS test before your bubble bursts. this has happened to me, and it sucks.

so have safer sex, and be aware of the genuine epidemic that's happening in our world.
